Mastering FAQ

Should I purchase mixing and mastering or just mastering?

We provide free pre-mix/master consultations to discuss your project. If you need trained ears to mix your track - we got you. If you are confident in your mixdown, then your song is ready for mastering. If you are unsure about your mix, we will evaluate it and provide our recommendations.

Why would I choose Solar Powered Studios to mix/master my song?

Our engineers have graduated from Slam Academy's Mixing/Mastering and Sound Design programs. Our works have appeared on record labels such as Tibetania, S&S, Phunk Junk, Comsmography, Down Right Dirty, and 4Matt Productions. We have experience in many genres and we apply mathematical/scientific knowledge to achieve technical precision. And most importantly, we offer an unmatched level of personalized service; we pay greater attention to the needs and fine details of your music than budget studios or instant mastering services. Your satisfaction is 100% guaranteed.

Why is the Turnaround Time Longer at Higher Service Levels?

Quality. Higher quality can be achieved with rest time between sessions and more time spent reflecting on the effects of enhancements. If you are looking for the best possible sound, Deluxe or Premium Mastering is the best product for you.

Why Would I want more Versions Initially?

Hearing different mastering approaches will allow you to hear different possibilities for your song and choose what is the best for your project. For example, you could evaluate the differences between a loud vs. dynamic approach, a gritty vs. clean approach, or a vintage vs. modern approach. Chose Premium mastering to explore more possibilities for your tracks.

How do I send you my files?

Zip up multiple files then upload to WeTransfer, DropBox, or Google Drive. Send a download link to

How do I prepare my song for mastering?

Mix your track to the best of your ability. Leave 4-10 dB of headroom on the master channel to prevent unwanted distortions. Export your file in .wav or .aif format with the bit depth and sample rate set to the same specifications as your original recordings and production sessions. 44100 Hz and 16-bit depth is CD quality, while 24-bit/48000 Hz is the new digital convention.
